Transformers Toys for Christmas Gifts – Ultimate Optimus Prime and Kre-O Optimus Prime – Action figures have always been popular; from simple static postures to complex articulated or even transformable forms, these toys never get old even in a market dominated by digital computerized toys and gaming platforms. In its most basic design, action figure is just an accessory to accommodate imaginative play where the scenarios, speech, and actions are all in a child’s mind. There are no rules – your kid decides who the heroes and villains are, as well as how the story finally ends. Some modern action figures feature additional bells & whistles such as LED lights and sound effects to make the play time a little bit more interesting. Almost all children movies or superhero comics have their own series of action figures, for example Transformers with their Autobots and Decepticons. In fact, the same action figure can come in different versions just like these two Optimus Prime characters. Both transformers toys, as expected, have been around for quite some time now.
Ultimate Optimus Prime
When it comes to Transformers toys, action figures in particular, Optimus Prime stands out from the crowd not only because of its gigantic size (compared to most other characters in the series), but also its heroic nature in the storyline. Optimus Prime is the leader of Autobots – the protagonist in the series – characterized as powerful leader and defender of justice and freedom. Ultimate Optimus Prime action figure offers several different modes of transformation: from a semi-trailer truck to a robot, and from a robot to an Omega Combat Armor.
- Fully-assembled figure stands over 22-inch tall
- Trailer transforms into a combat armor
- Challenging transformation process
- Lights and sounds
- Articulated parts
The initial form is a semi-trailer truck, which transforms into the Optimus Prime we all know and love. A unique feature from the play set is that you can actually transform the trailer into a combat armor for the robot. Once everything is assembled, the figure transforms into the Ultimate Optimus Prime with extended wings, canon, and energy absorbing panel; assembled figure stands over 22-inches tall. Transformation process from robot to truck is pretty challenging, but it is easy to overlook considering the overall quality of the set. Powered by 2 AAA batteries, it can also produce sounds and emit lights.
Kre-O Optimus Prime
Transformers started their way to popularity as Hasbro toy line back in 1984. As the name suggests, these products are basically vehicles that transform into robots. Kre-O Optimus Prime is also one of Hasbro’s, featuring the action figure in bricks instead of a pre-assembled one. In total it has 542 pieces which you can assemble into an Optimus Prime action figure in either semi-trailer mode or robot mode. Additional accessories in the package are decorative decals, traffic cones, 2 motorcycles, and 5 KREON mini figures including: Optimus Prime, Skywarp, Bluestreak, and two stunt drivers. If your kids have other Transformers toys or bricks sets from another leading brand, the pieces from Kre-O Optimus Prime are compatible.
- Optimus Prime figure stands at 10-inch tall
- Vehicle mode is 15-inch long
- Mini figures included
- Brick pieces are compatible with another leading brand play set
When in vehicle mode, it is also possible to detach the trailer and transform it into a battle station. All mini figures fit into the station. Unlike pre-assembled action figures, Kre-O Optimus Prime is basically bricks-set, which also means you may lose important parts of the robot/vehicle if you are not careful. Since the bricks are compatible with LEGO, children are encouraged to be more creative by combining multiple play sets into one.
Another thing to consider is that a multiple-modes play set can be interesting indeed because you get different figures from a single product. In reality, however, you must disassemble one and reassemble another; in case you want to display 2 (or even 3) modes at the same time, the only workaround is to purchase multiple sets. The alternative is to assemble the brick pieces to a battle station mode and use the mini figures to get more complete characters for an imaginative play.
